WACO, Texas -- With Daniel Gibson making shot after shot from long range, Texas didn't need the points they usually get from P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge.
Good thing Gibson was scoring, because Tucker and Aldridge -- both averaging almost 18 points a game -- were each held to a single field goal.
Gibson scored a career-high 37 points with nine 3-pointers to lead the No. 5 Longhorns to their eighth straight victory, 66-47, over Baylor on Saturday. Texas (16-2, 4-0 Big 12) hasn't lost since consecutive lopsided losses against No. 1 Duke and Tennessee in December.
"My teammates were setting real good screens," Gibson said. "I was wide open, and I was knocking them down. Sometimes you get in that zone where you feel like everything you shoot is going in."
It almost did for Gibson, who was 9-of-12 on 3-pointers and 13-of-16 shooting overall. He was one short of Al Coleman's school-record 10 3-pointers set against Kansas State in January 1997.
"He could have made any shot he chose," said Brad Buckman, who scored all 10 of his points for Texas in the first half.
Baylor (0-4), playing its fourth game after being banned from nonconference games because of NCAA violations under former coach Dave Bliss, trailed 45-24 when Gibson hit a 3-pointer from the right corner with 15:21 left.
But the Longhorns didn't score again until Gibson's 3-pointer from the top of the key six minutes later -- after Baylor scored 15 straight points. Gibson hit another 3-pointer after a turnover by the Bears to make it 51-39, and Texas wasn't challenged again.
Those 3-pointers were the first of six straight baskets Gibson scored for Texas. Only the last one was inside the 3-point arc.
"Even if you're in an empty gym, it's hard to make the 13 shots he did," Baylor coach Scott Drew said.
"Once he got it going, we were playing off him, running him off screens anywhere we could," coach Rick Barnes said. "When they concentrate inside, he has enough confidence to get it going."
The only basket by Aldridge (1-of-5 shooting) started the scoring after halftime, pushing Texas ahead 37-22. Tucker missed his first seven shots before making a slam dunk with seven seconds left.
Tucker had averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds in the seven previous wins. He had seven rebounds against the Bears.
Patrick Fields led Baylor with 20 points with five 3-pointers, two of them in Baylor's scoring spurt that did plenty to make Barnes uncomfortable on the bench. But Gibson then hit four 3-pointers in 12-1 spurt.
The Bears have lost 18 straight games. Their longest losing streak is 23 in a row, including all 17 games in the 1944-45 season.
Barnes is 16-0 against Baylor in his eight seasons at Texas. The Longhorns lead 147-75 in the overall series, the longest for both schools that are this season celebrating 100 years of basketball.
Since losing 97-66 against Duke and 95-78 to Tennessee, the Longhorns haven't allowed a team to shoot better than 40 percent. Baylor was 16-of-44 (37 percent).
Texas opened the second half with a 10-2 run in which Gibson scored half the points. Kenton Paulino had a steal and a bounce pass to Gibson for a layup, and after Paulino hit a long 3-pointer, a 3-pointer by Gibson gave the Longhorns their largest lead.
"It shows that we're a deep team," Gibson said. "Any player can give you some point production."
Aaron Bruce started Baylor's impressive run with his only basket. The nation's top-scoring freshman last season was 1-of-7 shooting and missed all five of his 3-pointers. He had three fouls and missed his only two shots before halftime.
