Jacksonville at Texas A&M

No. 13 Texas A&M 97, Jacksonville 58
  •

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Texas A&M is making Reed Arena a tough place to visit.

Josh Carter scored 16 points, and Acie Law and Antanas Kavaliauskas had 15 apiece to help the No. 13 Aggies roll to a 97-58 victory over Jacksonville on Saturday night.

Joseph Jones had 14 points and Marlon Pompey added 11 for the Aggies (9-2), whose wins have all come at home this season. Texas A&M has won 14 straight games at Reed Arena dating to last season, winning by an average of 29 points at home this season.

Texas A&M's two losses were on the road to then-No. 9 LSU and No. 1 UCLA last week. Its next game is Friday at Auburn.

"My freshman year, I don't know if we anticipated to win, but now we know that this is our court and no one should go on this court and beat us," said Pompey, a senior.

The Aggies are 41-4 at home during the regular season in coach Billy Gillispie's three seasons. The Aggies were 40-41 in the first seven years at Reed Arena.

Jesse Kimbrough, a former Texas A&M football player, led Jacksonville (4-6) with 19 points. Jacksonville shot 33 percent from the field.

Kimbrough redshirted as a freshman at Texas A&M before transferring to McClennan Junior College in Waco to play basketball. He thought his college career was over last year after a December 2005 injury ended his season, but the NCAA granted him a rare sixth year of eligibility. Jacksonville missed him, finishing 1-26 in his absence.

It was a night for season-high performances by Texas A&M. The 97 points are the most scored by the Aggies this season, and they also set season highs with 46 rebounds, 19 offensive rebounds, 30 assists and nine blocked shots.

"It was good win for us. That is a hard team to guard," Gillispie said. "They are very hard to guard off the dribble."

Kavaliauskas was 7-of-11 from the field and Carter hit three 3-pointers for the Aggies, who shot 51 percent from the field.

The Aggie defense held Jacksonville to 36 percent shooting for the game and Texas A&M scored 26 points on 16 turnovers.

The 39-point defeat was the largest this season for Jacksonville, which lost 90-61 at defending national champion Florida earlier this year.
