Nevada at Hawaii

No. 19 Nevada 68, Hawaii 66 (OT)

HONOLULU -- Ramon Sessions stepped up in Nick Fazekas' absence for Nevada.

Sessions made a layup to tie the game at 61 with 18 seconds left in regulation, and then he sunk a jumper that turned out to be the final shot of the game as the 19th-ranked Wolf Pack beat Hawaii 68-66 Saturday night.

"Sessions impressed me a lot," Hawaii forward Matt Lojeski said. "He knows how to use his teammates, how to use the pick-and-roll, how to find own people when he needs to. He was vital down the stretch."

Playing the second straight game without the injured Fazekas, Nevada (16-1, 4-0 Western Athletic Conference) relied on Sessions and Kyle Shiloh, who scored 18 points. The Wolf Pack, outrebounded 42-33, won their ninth straight.

Ahmet Gueye had 20 points and 14 rebounds and Lojeski added 17 points for Hawaii (10-7, 1-3), which held the lead for much of the game before faltering late.

"They executed down the stretch and we didn't. We lost concentration and focus," Lojeski said. "When they needed a big shot or a big bucket, they got it."

Fazekas, who is second in the NCAA with 12.1 rebounds per game, severely sprained his ankle when he landed on another player's foot during Nevada's win over Boise State on Monday.

Sessions' go-ahead basket came after Lojeski had a chance to give the Rainbows the lead but missed a field goal. The game ended with a scramble for a loose ball under the basket, and Nevada was awarded the final possession.

Hawaii, which led 30-26 at halftime, seemed to control the pace of the game until Nevada came back in the second half.

Marcelus Kemp finished with 11 points for the Wolf Pack, who haven't lost since Dec. 9 against UNLV.

The Wolf Pack, who average 77.4 points and 49.1 percent shooting from the field, only made 43.1 percent of their shots. Hawaii shot 40 percent.

Nevada forced 15 turnovers and capitalized on close shots. But the Wolf Pack were only 4-of-18 from 3-point range.
