RENO, Nev. -- Nevada won its 100th game in the Nick Fazekas era.
The 11th-ranked Wolf Pack didn't have this one in hand until the 6-foot-11 senior drew a charge in the lane with 52 seconds remaining.
Fazekas had 20 points and 10 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the season Wednesday night to help the Wolf Pack hang on for their 16th win in their last 17 games with a 68-60 victory over San Jose State in the Western Athletic Conference.
"It definitely wasn't the prettiest game we played all season, but the scoreboard said 68-60 and we won, so that's what matters," said Fazekas, who made 9-of-16 shots from the field, including both of his attempts from 3-point range.
Kyle Shiloh added 16 points, Ramon Sessions 11 and Marcelus Kemp 10 for Nevada (23-2, 11-1 WAC), which scored the first nine points of the second half to turn a 31-29 deficit into a 38-31 lead with 17:26 left in the game.
"We came out with a lot of energy in the second half and took over and never fell behind from then on," Fazekas said. "We got No. 23 tonight."
Tim Pierce had a team-high 20 points for the Spartans (4-21, 3-10), who had pulled within 64-60 on Julian Richardson's reverse layup with 1:05 left before Richardson was called for charging into Fazekas the next trip down the floor.
Kemp scored inside with 22 seconds remaining and Shiloh made a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to secure the Wolf Pack's sixth straight victory. They are now 100-24 over the last four seasons, 58-6 at home since the start of the 2003-04 season.
"We had a chance and didn't get it done," San Jose State coach George Nessman said. "We played valiantly despite being short-handed" due to foul trouble.
Carlton Spencer, the Spartans' leading scorer averaging 14.4 points per game, fouled out after scoring 10 points with 5:25 left and the score 60-56.
Kemp had eight rebounds and six assists and Sessions had six rebounds and five assists, but Sessions had five and Kemp four of Nevada's 19 turnovers on the game.
"We just didn't play as well as we're capable," Nevada coach Mark Fox said. "I'm not sure what we were thinking the last part of the ball game. That's as bad as we've played in a tight ball game in a long time."
"We were a reflection of the coach. We were awful. I didn't do a very good job tonight," he said.
The Spartans missed their only two free-throw attempts on the game while Nevada made 13 of 17 from the line.
"We can't seem to get to the free-throw line," Nessman said. "We're driving the ball. We're getting to the rim. You can't win going 0-2 from the free-throw line."
"They really dissected our zone defense and got ridiculously open looks" early in the second half, Nessman said.
Kemp opened the second half with a 3-pointer to start a 12-2 run capped by Shiloh's 3 for a 41-33 lead at 16:44.
Shiloh and Sessions made back-to-back 3s to give Nevada its biggest lead, 51-39 with 13:44 left, but Jamon Hills' 15-footer capped an 8-2 run for San Jose to pull within 53-47 at 10:45.
Fazekas answered with a 3-pointer but the Spartans went on a 9-2 run to pull to 58-56 on Pierce's 3 over Fazekas with 6:30 remaining.
Fazekas sandwiched a pair of inside baskets around Shiloh's two free throws to make it 64-58 with 2:24 left before Richardson's reverse layup for the Spartans' final points of the game.
"I couldn't tell you what happened," Fazekas said. "We might have just got a little lackadaisical and just kind of took the game for granted and they kind of started coming back on us."
Fazekas, who is averaging 20.8 points and ranks third in the NCAA in rebounds averaging 11.7, notched the 57th double-double of his career. He moved into fifth place on the WAC's career scoring list with 2,289, passing Devin Durant, who had 2,285 at BYU from 1978-84.
Menelik Barbary scored San Jose State's first six points then Lance Holloway, Darion Goings and Justonn Smith made consecutive baskets off rebounds to put the Spartans in front 14-10 with 11:40 left in the first half.
Denis Ikovlev answered with a 3-point goal and Kemp turned a steal into layup to start a 13-3 run that included a dunk on a break by Shiloh and Fazekas' layup off a no-look pass from Kemp to give the Wolf Pack a 23-17 lead 6:54 before the half.
But the Spartans finished the half with a 14-6 run, including eight points by Pierce on a pair of 3-pointers for a 31-29 lead. It was only the fifth time this season Nevada has trailed at the half.
