HOUSTON (AP) -DeLuis Ramirez scored 16 points and Ryan Bright had 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead Sam Houston State past Texas Southern 54-51 on Saturday.
The Bearkats (9-0) are unbeaten this late in the season for the first time since 1973, when they started 28-0 before losing in the second round of the NAIA tournament.
Sam Houston went ahead for good at 36-34 on a 3-pointer by Shamir McDaniel with 14:57 remaining. McDaniel's shot started a 13-4 run that was capped by Ramirez's only 3-pointer for a 46-38 lead with 10:13 left.
Matthew Miller scored 14 points to lead the Tigers (1-7), and Sollie Norwood had 14 points and a game-high three steals.
Texas Southern missed two 3-pointers that would have tied the game in the final 1:05.
