EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -Shy Ely had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Evansville used a 16-0 run midway through the second half to beat Austin Peay 70-62 Saturday night.
The Aces (1-0) trailed 37-34 at halftime and 41-37 early in the second quarter before starting the go-ahead run. They took the lead on a basket by Nate Garner and built it to 53-41 before the Governors (0-1) scored again.
Austin Peay closed within 62-57 late in the game, but two more baskets and a free throw by Ely kept the Aces in control down the stretch.
Jason Holsinger added 14 points for Evansville. Caleb Brown scored 20 and Drake Reed added 13 to lead Austin Peay.
