DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -Zach Hahn scored 13 points and Matt Howard added 12 as Butler beat Drake 58-48 Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Butler used a 10-0 run midway through the first half, including two straight 3-pointers by Hahn, and took a 25-14 halftime lead.
Drake made just 22 per cent of its shots while connecting on only 2-9 from three-point range in the period. Drake cut the lead to 31-27 on a Bill Eaddy 3-pointer, but 3s by Hahn and Gordon Hayward and a layup by Howard helped Butler take a 39-30 lead with 10:26 left and Drake never caught up.
Josh Young led Drake with 19 points and Jonathon Cox finished with seven.
