BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) -Jonathan Rodriguez scored a game-high 30 points to lift Campbell to a season-opening 79-64 victory over Chowan on Saturday night.
Campbell pulled away in the second half by hitting 70.6 percent (12 of 17) from the field, compared to 37.5 (12 of 32) for the Division II Hawks. The Camels shot 60 percent (27 of 45) for the game, including 63.6 percent (7 of 11) from the 3-point line.
Rodriguez hit 10 of 16 field goals and nine of his 10 free throws. Miles Taylor added 14 points for Campbell.
Chowan started the game with three quick 3-pointers on its first three possessions to take a 9-4 lead over Campbell. But turnovers plagued the Hawks, who gave the ball up 28 times resulting in 36 Campbell points.
Layth Mansour led the Hawks with 14 points. He also had a team-high eight rebounds.
