BALTIMORE (AP) - Darryl Proctor scored 20 points and Jay Greene and Chauncey Gilliam each had 17 to lead Maryland-Baltimore County past Stevenson 91-54 in the season opener Saturday for both teams.
UMBC, the reigning American East champions, went on a 21-7 run to start the game. Matt Spadafora scored 11 points and Justin Fry added 10 for the Retrievers, who forced 16 Stevenson turnovers.
Greg Woody and Chaise Lancaster each scored 12 points for the NCAA Division III Mustangs, who made 39.6 percent of their shots (21-of-53). UMBC, which shot 57.4 percent from the field (39-of-68), led by double digits for most of the game.
The Retrievers, who have won 16 of their past 17 home games, also out rebounded Stevenson 40-27.
