NEW YORK (AP) -Darryl Proctor had 25 points and 11 rebounds in helping the University of Maryland-Baltimore County rally for a 76-71 victory over Quinnipiac in the opening round of the Tyler Ugolyn-Columbia Classic on Friday.
Matt Spadafora added 15 points for UMBC (2-1), Justin Fry had 11, and Jay Greene and Rich Flemming scored 10 each.
James Johnson led Quinnipiac (2-1) with 17 points, Jeremy Baker and Bryan Geffen had 12 apiece, and Justin Rutty and James Feldeine added 10 apiece.
Quinnipiac led 43-35 with 18:22 to play when UMBC went on a 13-2 run to take a 48-45 lead with 14:29 left. Flemming scored five points in the burst and Proctor had four.
Quinnipiac had a 37-35 halftime lead and went on a 6-2 run to start the second half before Flemming began the Retrievers' rally with a layup.
UMBC advanced to the tournament championship on Saturday night against the winner of the Columbia-Bryant game being played later Friday.
