PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) -Freshman Mike Rosario scored 27 points and Rutgers pulled away in the second half to defeat Robert Morris 69-55 Friday.
Hamady Ndiaye had eight blocked shots and 10 rebounds for Rutgers (3-0), which is looking to sweep through the Garden State Challenge with a win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
Rosario's output was the most by a Rutgers freshman since Quincy Douby scored 35 against Iowa State in the 2004 NIT.
Bateko Francisco had 13 points for the Colonials (1-2), while Jeremy Chappell and Josiah Whitehead had 10 each.
Rutgers opened and closed with cold shooting from the field.
The Scarlet Knights opened by missing 11 of its first 12 shots and 14 of its 17 as the Colonials mounted a 12-7 lead.
After Rosario's three-pointer made it 61-45 with 5:55 left, Rutgers did not get another field goal, but went 8-for-9 from the line.
