WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) -Scott VanderMeer scored 13 points and blocked five shots as Illinois-Chicago defeated Howard 68-54 on Tuesday night.
The Flames (2-2) forced 12 second-half turnovers to pull away after trailing by four at the half.
Robo Kreps added 13 points and Josh Mayo had 12 for the Illinois-Chicago, which got its first road win of the season after outscoring the Bison 28-9 to begin the second half.
Eugene Myatt scored 19 points for Howard (1-4), which lost its fourth straight and shot only 2 of 17 from 3-point range.
Mayo gave the Flames their first second-half lead with a baseline 3-pointer to make the score 37-34. Mayo's second 3-pointer of the half kept the Flames ahead 45-41, before Kreps and VanderMeer each added two field goals as part of a run that stretched it to 58-43.
