HOUSTON (AP) -Jay Brown scored 22 points and pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds to lead Lamar to a 61-53 victory over Rice on Tuesday night.
Brown also got help from Brandon McThay with 12 points, Kenny Dawkins with 11 and Tristan Worrell with 10 for Lamar (4-0). McThay hit three 3-pointers.
Connor Frizzelle led Rice (2-3) with 18 points, 10 of those at the free-throw line. Aleks Perka scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Owls.
Lamar led 31-23 at the half. The Cardinals outrebounded Rice 48-36.
Rice shot 29 percent form the field for the game, hitting only 18-of-62. Lamar shot 39 percent.
