CHICAGO (AP) -J.R. Blount and Darrin Williams combined for four free throws in the final 16 seconds as Loyola of Chicago held on for a 58-53 victory over Holy Cross Saturday.
Blount led the scoring with 19 points, including seven in the final six minutes to protect the Ramblers' victory.
Loyola (3-4) led 37-28 seven minutes into the second half, but the Crusaders came back on the shooting of Colin Cunningham and Greg McCarthy, who led Holy Cross (2-4) with 13 points a piece.
The Crusaders took a short-lived 48-47 lead late in the second period, but Blount hit three free-throws and a short jump shot and Andy Polka added a layup to put the Ramblers ahead 54-48.
The Ramblers won the game at the free throw line, hitting 24 of 34 attempts while Holy Cross was 11 of 17 from the stripe.
