MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Jeffery McClain scored 20 points and Murray State was almost perfect from the free-throw line to defeat NAIA school St. Catharine 76-66 on Saturday night.
McClain was 3-of-5 from the field and made all 14 of his free throws for Murray State (4-1), which led 39-35 at halftime.
The Racers, coming off a 67-61 road win over Indiana State in which they made 19 of 20 free throws in the final 7 minutes, again used free throws to take control of the game. Murray State made 25 of 26 free throws while the Patriots were 12 of 18.
St. Catharine, a former junior college in its first NAIA season, counted the game as an exhibition and is 0-9.
Tony Easley added 13 points for the Racers and Matt Fraliex chipped in 12.
St. Catharine's Victor Garcia led all scorers with 27 points, while Brandon Johnson added 15 and Arthur Latham had 14.
