NEW YORK (AP) -Chris Martin scored on a put-back with 38.1 seconds to play to give Stony Brook a 62-60 victory over Columbia on Saturday that broke a 3-game losing streak for the Seawolves.
Columbia (2-4), which trailed by 15 early in the second half, tied the score at 60 on Niko Scott's jumper with 1:14 remaining but Martin's rebound put the Seawolves (2-3) back in front.
Jonathan Moore missed a free throw for Stony Brook with 14.8 seconds to go, but Asenso Ampim and Scott missed shots in the closing seconds for Columbia.
Bryan Dougher led the Seawolves with 15 points and Muhammad El-Amin added 11.
Patrick Foley was Columbia's leading scorer with 15 points, K.J. Matsui had 13 and Jason Miller 10.
Dougher and Moore opened the second half with successive 3-pointers, triggering a 13-2 run that carried the Seawolves to a 40-27 lead.
Stony Brook extended the lead to 15 at 45-30 on El-Amin's 3-pointer before Foley got eight points in a 15-5 run that brought the Lions to within five at 50-45 with 7:29 remaining.
Columbia got within two four times in the closing minutes before Scott's basket tied it.
Danny Carter scored four points in a late 8-1 spurt that gave the Seawolves a 27-25 halftime lead.
