CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -Josh Thornton scored 21 points and Towson converted a school-record 14 3-pointers in an 82-65 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Wednesday night.
Junior Hairston added 19 points and Troy Franklin had 15 points and nine assists as the Tigers (4-3) halted the Retrievers' nine-game home winning streak. Towson finished 14-for-25 on 3-point tries, snapped a two-game skid and improved to 32-18 all-time against UMBC (4-3).
Chauncey Gilliam led UMBC with 17 points, followed by Darryl Proctor with 15 points and Rich Flemming with 13.
Towson was 10-for-15 from beyond the arc in the first half en route to a 38-28 halftime lead and held UMBC to one field goal in the opening 9:31 of the second half. The Tigers broke their mark for 3-pointers, set in 2007 against Delaware, when Thornton canned a left-wing 3 for a 70-50 lead with 8:13 remaining.
