STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -Dwight O'Neill scored on a fall-away jump shot with one-second remaining Saturday night to give Fresno State a 66-64 victory over Pacific.
The game was tied for the seventh time before Fresno State set up for the final shot. Pacific knocked the ball out of bounds with 3.7 seconds remaining, but after a time-out, O'Neill was able to get open underneath the basket and bank in the game-winner.
Paul George led Fresno State (3-4) with 23 points, making 5 of 7 3-pointers. Michael Lad had 19 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Sam Willard led Pacific with a career-high 14 points and six rebounds. Chad Troller scored 12 points for the Tigers and Joe Ford scored 10.
Pacific had the game's biggest lead at 46-38 early in the second half before the Bulldogs rallied behind George and Lad, both true freshmen.
George made three 3-pointers and Lad twice had individual runs of six consecutive Fresno State points to spark the comeback for the Bulldogs, who regained the lead at 62-60 on George's final 3-pointer with 3:36 to play.
Pacific tied the game for the final time on Ford's drive to the basket with 23 seconds to play. The Bulldogs then held the ball for a final shot, setting up their game-winning sequence.
The game was tied five times in a five-minute span midway through the first half before Pacific went on 13-4 run to take early command.
The Tigers twice built a seven-point lead in the final minutes before Fresno State scored the final two baskets of the half to close the gap to 35-32 at the intermission.
Sylvester Say scored twice to begin the second half and complete an 8-0 run that gave the lead back to the Bulldogs, but Pacific answered with an 11-2 run sparked by two 3-pointers by Troller.
