NEW YORK (AP) -Vincent Simpson scored 16 points to lead Hampton to a 45-39 victory over Howard on Saturday.
Simpson hit a pair of 3-pointers and was the only player to score in double-figures for the Pirates (5-3, 1-0 MEAC), who only made six field-goals in the second half but still managed to cling to a lead they built by halftime.
Paul Kirkpatrick scored 10 points to lead Howard (1-6, 0-1), which shot just 19 percent (4-for-21) from the field in the first half of a game played at Madison Square Garden.
