Kansas 86, Jackson St. 62
  •

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -Sherron Collins scored 17 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers, and helped spark a second-half surge that carried slow-starring Kansas past Jackson State 86-62 Saturday.

Struggling against Jackson State's 2-3 zone defense, the Jayhawks (7-1) trailed much of the first half and did not take a comfortable lead until Tyrel Reed scored eight straight points with a pair of free throws and two quick 3-pointers for a 56-42 advantage with about 13 minutes left.

Collins, after going 2-for-9 in a dreadful first half, also had five assists, five rebounds and three steals against the Tigers (1-8). He had career highs with five made and 10 attempted 3-pointers. Cole Aldrich had 13 points and eight rebounds for Kansas while freshman Tyshawn Taylor had a double-double with 10 and 11 assists.

Grant Maxey had 19 points and Jeremy Caldwell added 11 points and seven rebounds for Jackson State, the preseason favorite in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
