CHICAGO (AP) -Josh Mayo had 22 points, including five 3-pointers and a perfect 3-3 from the foul line, to lead Illinois-Chicago to a 83-69 victory over Loyola of Chicago on Saturday.
Scott VanderMeer added 18 points for Illinois-Chicago (5-2, 1-0 Horizon) and Robo Kreps had 11 points. The Flames led by as many as 14 points with 17 seconds left in the game.
Just Cerasoli led Loyola (4-3, 0-1 Horizon) with 24 points, including 4-of-7 3-pointers, and Darrin Williams added 12 points. J.R. Blount had a game-high six assists but also had eight turnovers for the Ramblers, who had 15 turnovers on the game.
The Flames turned those 15 turnovers into 20 points.
Loyola shot an even 50 percent from the field for the game compared with 44.6 percent for Illinois-Chicago, which had four players shoot 100 percent from the free-throw line.
