THIBODAUX, La. (AP) -Fred Hunter scored 19 points to lead Nicholls State to a 75-56 win over Southern University on Saturday.
Hunter shot 77.8 percent from the field, making 7 of 9 of his shots. He made 61.2 percent of his shots in the previous five games.
The Colonels (3-3), who entered the game tied with Syracuse for 20th nationally in field-goal shooting at 50 percent (118 of 236 shots), kept up the pace by shooting 49.1 percent (27 of 55).
The Jaguars (0-6) made 44.4 percent of their shots (20 of 45) for the game, but couldn't make up a 36-27 halftime deficit.
Anatoly Bose added 17 points for Nicholls State, Kyle Ford scored 14 and Ryan Bathie had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Desmond Griffin led the Jaguars with 17 points and Chris Davis added 14.
