DENVER (AP) -Rob Lewis scored 15 points and had a career-high five assists to help lead Denver to a 62-58 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday.
Lewis also picked up seven rebounds in the win at Magness Arena.
Nate Rohnert led the Pioneers (2-6) with 17 points and Brian Stafford added 14, tying his career record.
Clint Sargent led South Dakota State (4-7) with 19 points and Anthony Cordova had 17 and 10 rebounds.
Cordova made two baskets for the Jackrabbits with 1:46 remaining in the first half to cut Denver's lead to 28-26. Denver opened the second half with a 9-3 run and led 58-51 with 2:58 remaining.
The Jackrabbits cut Denver's lead to 58-55 with a 6-0 push but Denver won after Stafford and Rob Lewis sunk free throws in the final 10 seconds.
Denver shot 56.1 percent from the field and South Dakota State finished the game shooting 50 percent.
