AMES, Iowa (AP) -Sophomore Craig Brackins had 28 points and a career-high 17 rebounds as Iowa State beat Jacksonville State 66-60 Saturday night to snap a two-game losing streak.
Diante Garrett added eight points for the Cyclones (7-3), who allowed the Gamecocks to whittle a 15-point deficit down to three late in the second half before putting the game away.
Jacksonville State (6-3), which trailed by as much as 42-27, went on a 12-2 run to get within 52-49 with 5:20 left. But Brackins nailed a dunk off a spin move and Garrett hit two layups to push the Cyclones lead back to 60-51.
The Gamecocks inched back within 62-58 with 42 seconds left before Iowa State ended the drama by hitting four free throws.
Jonathan Toles and Nick Murphy each had 18 points for Jacksonville State, which lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.
