NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) -Freshman guard Robby Ptacek scored a career high 20 points to help Central Connecticut State University pull away for a 67-56 victory on Saturday over Princeton University.
With Central's Blue Devils (5-5) leading the Tigers 23-21 at the half, Ptacek opened the second half with a pair of three-pointers. But Princeton held its ground, preventing Central from turning the game into a rout early in the half.
Princeton (2-7) used its size to get back into the game. Nike Lake scored a three-pointer that put the Tigers back in the lead, 41-40, with 10:21 minutes left in the game.
The Blue Devils countered with an 8-2 spurt to take back their cushion.
Sophomore Ken Horton later exploded in the final 20 minutes, scoring six points in a three-minute span late in the half to help Central regain its lead by seven. He scored 18 points in the game.
