ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -Antwaine Wiggins' short jumper in the lane with 24 seconds left lifted the College of Charleston to a 77-76 win over Winthrop on Monday night.
Winthrop's Mantoris Robinson's 3-pointer from the left baseline with two seconds left was off the mark, giving the Cougars (10-1) their ninth straight win and best start since the 2001-02 season.
Winthrop (1-9) led 44-41 at halftime and was up 69-66 with 9:12 left. After four lead changes, the Eagles had a 76-75 advantage with 2:12 remaining. Neither team scored until Wiggins' game-winner.
The Eagles shot a season-best 55 percent (33-for-60), while the Cougars made 24 of 49 (40 percent). Charleston made 17 of 32 free throws compared to 6 of 10 for Winthrop.
Andrew Goudelock led Charleston with 21 points, while Wiggins added 16.
Charles Corbin paced the Eagles with a career-high 22 points.
