BILOXI, Miss. (AP) -Steve Panos scored 13 points and Weber State held off Texas-Pan American 61-54 on Monday night.
The Wildcats (6-5) jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the opening game of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic, but the Broncs (4-8) trimmed the lead to 29-20 by halftime.
Texas-Pan American tied the score at 31 with 16:38 left on a Nick Weiermiller 3-pointer. Weber State regained the lead and maintained a cushion of at least five points.
Texas-Pan American made only 17 of 60 field goals (28.3 percent) while Weber State was 20 of 39 from the field (51.3 percent).
Panos made 4 of 5 field goals and was 5 of 6 from the free-throw line in only 18 minutes of playing time. Nick Hansen and Daviin Davis added 11 points apiece for the Wildcats.
Weiermiller paced the Broncs with 18 points and Emmanuel Jones added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
