WACO, Texas -- Baylor knew all about Jeremiah Dominguez, and that made a difference in its smothering defense.
LaceDarius Dunn and the 19th-ranked Bears beat Portland State 79-66 Monday night while holding Dominguez to two points after he scored 25 in an upset of then-No. 7 Gonzaga last week.
"Jeremiah was coming off seven 3s against Gonzaga," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "He was the (Big Sky Conference) player of the year. We wanted to make every one of his shots a tough one and we did that."
Dunn scored 22 points to lead four players in double figures for the Bears. Curtis Jerrells and Kevin Rogers added 16 points apiece, and Henry Dugat had 11 for Baylor (11-1).
Dominic Waters led Portland State (10-4) with 18 points. Phil Nelson scored 16 and Jamie Jones 12. Dominguez, Portland State's leading scorer at 13.5 points per game, was limited to 1-of-9 shooting.
"Baylor is much more athletic and longer," Portland State coach Ken Bone said, comparing Gonzaga and Baylor. "They had a post presence in Rogers and a few of those other kids. Gonzaga doesn't throw the ball in the paint very well and they didn't take advantage of our lack of height. Baylor exposed us in most any area that you can -- inside, outside, quickness."
Bone said Dominguez had trouble getting his shot off.
"At the end of the day, he's 5-6 and not very athletic," the coach said. "He's not used to not being able to score."
Baylor took a 35-22 lead with 3:20 left in the first half on a 9-0 run that included consecutive 3-pointers by Dunn.
The Bears scored the first six points of the second half while Portland State had two turnovers and missed shots on four straight possessions.
Andre Murray broke the drought for Portland State with a baseline jumper to pull the Vikings to 48-31 with 16:55 to play. Back-to-back dunks by Rogers and Dugat's free throw put Baylor up 53-31 with 16:09 left.
"They have so many weapons," Bone said. "They did a great job of spacing and isolating our guys. Our kids worked hard, but we played against kids that were bigger, stronger and faster."
Baylor led by as many as 26, taking a 60-34 lead with 13:21 to play. Portland State cut the lead to 12 a couple of times late in the game but couldn't get any closer.
Portland State's win at Gonzaga "definitely grabbed the coaches' attention," Rogers said. "We knew they were a good team. All the preparation and us coming in focused got us the win tonight."
Rogers became the second Baylor player this season to score 1,000 career points. He hit the mark with a free throw with 18:20 left in the first half. Two of Rogers' teammates have also scored more than 1,000 points. Dugat topped 1,000 on Dec. 22 against Hartford, and Jerrells went over that mark last season.
