NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) -Scott Machado scored 14 points and Gary Springer had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Iona to its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory of the season, 64-60 over Fairfield on Sunday.
Jonathan Huffman added 10 points and Trinity Fields had eight for the Gaels (6-9, 1-3), who outrebounded the Stags 40-31.
Greg Nero scored 18 points and Jonathan Han had 13 for Fairfield (8-6, 2-2), which has lost three straight.
The Gaels shot 41.9 percent from the field and held the Stags to 28.6 percent in taking a 30-22 halftime lead.
Iona, which never trailed in the second half, led by as much as 56-43 after Jermel Jenkins converted two free throws with 4:43 left.
Fairfield got within 62-60 when Nero scored with 9.3 seconds remaining.
Machado made two free throws with 7.7 seconds left.
