BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) -Rudy Meo scored a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to give UC Riverside a 64-63 win over Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday.
The Highlanders (10-7) withstood a late surge by Cal State Bakersfield (5-13) that put the Roadrunners on top 63-62 with 21 seconds to go.
Bryan Emanuel nailed a three with just under a minute to play for Bakersfield, tying the game at 61-61 before Meo hit one of two free throws to give Riverside a one-point advantage.
A layup by Santwon Latunde kept the Roadrunners alive, but Meo earned a final trip to the line to score the last of his game-high 19 points.
Kyle Austin had 13 points for the Highlanders. Trent Blakely led Bakersfield with 17 points, while Alex Johnson and Latunde chipped in 14 apiece.
