DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -John Holmes scored 20 points as Bethune-Cookman defeated Coppin State 65-56 on Saturday.
Holmes scored 12 points in the first half for the Wildcats (9-8, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who won for the fifth time in seven games, overcome a 19-8 deficit with 11:56 left in the first half.
Bethune-Cookman dominated the rest of the half, outscoring the Eagles (3-14, 1-3) 23-5 to claim a 31-24 halftime lead.
The Wildcats increased the margin to 12 points three times in the second half - the last at 56-44 with 6:09 to play.
Coppin State scored seven straight points to close the gap to 56-51 with 2:01 left, but could get no closer.
Alexander Starling added 13 points for Bethune-Cookman.
Tywain McKee and Michael Harper each scored 14 points for the Eagles, who have lost four of five. Vince Goldsberry added 12 points.
