PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -Nik Raivio had 16 points and T.J. Campbell added 15, including five free throws in the final 25 seconds, as Portland held off Santa Clara for a 53-52 victory Saturday night in West Coast Conference action.
Portland (11-7, 2-1) had a comfortable 43-26 lead after Jared Stohl hit a jumper with 12:42 left in the second half. But Santa Clara (7-13, 0-4) responded with 11 unanswered points, turning a runaway into a battle down the stretch.
The Broncos' Kevin Foster, who hit just 2 of 10 shot attempts in the first half, rallied to score 11 points in the game's final 10 minutes. That included a 3-pointer that cut Portland's lead to 47-45 with 3:09 left.
After struggling earlier in the game, Santa Clara center John Bryant finished with 15 points and 22 rebounds, which tied his season high.
