Gonzaga at Loyola Marymount

No. 23 Gonzaga 93, Loyola Marymount 60
  •

LOS ANGELES -- Gonzaga coach Mark Few enjoyed securing his 250th career victory on Saturday night.

"It's been a lot of fun," Few said after No. 23 Gonzaga earned a 93-60 rout of Loyola Marymount. "It's been very rewarding and to do it with the type of guys we've had here, that's key. We've had a great group of guys. We've kept the staff intact.

"And it's so much more rewarding this way than doing the vagabond thing."

Few has led the Bulldogs to nine straight West Coast Conference regular-season titles and is trying to lead Gonzaga to its 11th straight NCAA tournament. Few improved his record at Gonzaga to 250-64.

Matt Bouldin hit five 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs.

"He gives you all pluses," Loyola Marymount coach Max Good said. "As a coach, you can put it on cruise control because he makes such good decisions. You don't have to micro manage."

The Bulldogs (14-4, 5-0 WCC) hit 12 3-pointers in winning their sixth straight game. A big part of the rout was their balanced scoring, with four Gonzaga players in double figures.

Austin Daye had 14 points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for Gonzaga. Steven Gray added 14 points and made four 3s, and senior forward Josh Heytvelt finished with 15 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Micah Downs added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Freshman Kevin Young had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Lions, who trailed 43-17 at halftime. Vernon Teel scored 12 points and Jarred DuBois had 11 points.

Point guard Jeremy Pargo finished with nine points, seven rebounds and four assists -- nearly giving the Bulldogs a fifth double-figure scorer.

Gonzaga dominated last-place LMU (1-20, 0-5), which was held to 26 percent shooting while the Bulldogs shot nearly 52 percent.

Gonzaga also used its height advantage to control the glass with a 52-33 rebounding advantage. The Bulldogs led by as many as 38 points and never looked back after an 11-0 run early in the first half.

"It's huge for us (to win big)," Gray said. "We can't come in and play at their level. We've got to play Gonzaga basketball. We've got to defend and we needed to do a better job rebounding. That wasn't a problem tonight but it's one thing that has hurt us in other games. It's about us in these games and about us taking care of business."
