THIBODAUX, La. (AP) -Fred Hunter scored 20 points and Nicholls State made 34 of 40 free throws in an 85-69 win over Northwestern State.
The Colonels (10-8, 3-2 Southland Conference) surged ahead midway through the second half to hand the Demons (8-11, 0-4) their seventh straight loss.
Leading 53-52 with 11:20 left, Nicholls State held Northwestern State scoreless for the next 3:29 while scoring 11 points. The Colonels expanded the margin to 85-63 with 1:52 left.
Nicholls State also defeated Northwestern State 69-60 on Jan. 10, becoming the only road team to win on the first day of league play.
The Colonels took an early 23-12 lead, but the Demons rallied to pull ahead by three before trailing 36-34 at halftime.
Ryan Bathie added 19 points for Nicholls State and Anatoly Bose had 18.
Kalem Porterie led the Demons with 16 points and Damon Jones added 13.
