JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -Darrion Griffin scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Jackson State to a 64-58 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.
Garrison Johnson added 17 points for the Tigers (7-13, 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference), who have won seven of their last eight games.
Jackson State raced to a 22-10 lead in the first 10 minutes. A basket by Griffin with 3 seconds remaining gave the Tigers a 31-27 lead at halftime.
Griffin, who had 11 points in the first half, hit a 3-pointer with 15:05 left in the second half to push Jackson State's lead to 35-27.
Jeremy Caldwell's basket with 8:52 remaining in the game stretched Jackson State's lead to 51-39.
Caldwell finished with 12 points and Grant Maxey had 11 for Jackson State, which outrebounded Mississippi Valley State 45-35.
Eric Petty led Mississippi Valley State with 18 points.
