BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) -Derrick Mercer scored 15 points and Garrison Carr added 14, leading American to a 66-58 victory over Lehigh on Saturday night.
American (15-7, 7-1 Patriot League) led by four points at the half, held a 10-point lead with 10:29 remaining and survived a late rally that pulled Lehigh within three points in the final minute.
Zahir Carrington had his seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds for Lehigh (13-9, 3-5). Rob Keefer added 12 points.
American's substitutes outscored their Lehigh counterparts 25-9, and the Mountain Hawks were slowed by 3-for-16 shooting from 3-point range.
