RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) -Brandon Dowdy and Javon Borum led a balanced attack as UC Riverside defeated UC Davis 58-53 Saturday.
Dowdy hit two big shots down the stretch, a 3-pointer that gave the Highlanders (13-9, 5-5 Big West Conference) a 52-48 lead with 1:42 to play, and a jumper in the lane that made it 54-50 with 57.5 seconds left.
Dowdy scored a game-high 12 points and Borum added 11, and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 40 seconds.
After Vince Oliver scored on a three-point play to give UC Davis (10-13, 5-5) its only lead of the second half, Sean Cunningham answered with a 3-pointer to put the Highlanders ahead for good, 49-48, with 3:16 to play.
