DETROIT (AP) -Woody Payne made a steal with 2 seconds left and then split a pair of free throws, giving Detroit a 56-55 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday.
Chris Hayes had a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds and Eulis Stephens added 10 points for the Titans (7-16, 2-11 Horizon League), who snapped a six-game home losing streak and posted their first conference win of the season at Calihan Hall.
Valparaiso threw in a long inbounds pass after Payne's go-ahead free throw. But Urule Igbavboa couldn't handle it and it went out of bounds with 1 second to play, wrapping up a game that had seen seven ties and eight lead changes.
Michael Rogers and Howard Little scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Crusaders (6-18, 3-10).
