PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Tramayne Hawthorne hit five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 23 points, leading Drexel to a 78-65 win over Towson on Sunday.
Drexel (14-10, 10-5 Colonial Athletic Association) never trailed en route to its ninth win in 11 games. The Dragons ended the first half on a 10-1 run, punctuated by a layup by Hawthorne with four seconds remaining, and held a 36-26 edge at the break. In the second half, Drexel led by as many as 16 points.
Scott Rodgers chipped in 20 points and eight assists, Evan Neisler had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Leon Spencer scored 11 points for the Dragons.
Towson (4-11, 9-18) lost for the fourth time in five games. The Tigers cut their deficit to 49-42 with 12:30 remaining in the second half after Troy Franklin stole the ball off an inbounds pass. David Brewster fed Tony Durant, who was fouled while making the layup and hit the ensuing free throw.
Drexel answered with Hawthorne hitting consecutive 3-pointers that gave Drexel a 55-42 lead.
The Tigers shot 38 percent from the field. Brewster paced Towson with 16 points, and Junior Hairston finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
