AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) Akron moved into a tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference's East Division with a 62-57 victory over Buffalo Thursday night.
The Zips, who have won nine of their last 11, were led by Chris McKnight's 11 points.
Akron (18-10, 9-4 MAC) got 10 points each from Darryl Roberts, Anthony Hitchins and Brett McClanahan.
Buffalo (17-10, 9-4 MAC), which lost its fourth-straight game, was led by Rodney Pierce, who scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the first half. Greg Gamble added 14 points.
Buffalo took a 50-49 lead on a layup by Andy Robinson at 5:38.
Akron took the lead with two free throws by McKnight at 5:15 and the Zips never trailed again. Akron made nine of its last 13 free throws to seal the win.
