BOONE, N.C. (AP) -Donald Sims hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the last minute and scored 35 points to lead Appalachian State past Chattanooga 88-82 on Thursday night.
Appalachian State (12-16, 9-10 Southern Conference) held a 56-42 advantage with 16:50 to go, before Chattanooga (15-15, 11-8) went on an 18-4 run to tie the game at 60 with 11:19 remaining.
The Mountaineers regained the lead, but the game was tied again at 82 on a free throw by Nicchaeus Doaks with 1:45 to go. Donald Sims then hit a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left, and another with 14 seconds on the clock to give Appalachian State the win.
Kellen Brand scored 18 points for the Mountaineers, Donterious Hughes added 13 and Isaac Butts chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Mocs were paced by Stephen McDowell with 16 points and Khalil Hartwell and Keyron Sheard added 14 points each.
