ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Josh White scored a career-high 35 points and North Texas edged Texas-Arlington 101-99 in double overtime Wednesday night.
The Mean Green (2-0) scored the first five points of the second overtime to take a 99-94 lead then held off the Mavericks (1-1), who had won the previous five meetings.
Marquez Haynes led Arlington with 29 points and Brandon Long, who missed a free throw that would of given the Mavericks the lead with 3.3 seconds left in the first overtime, added 28.
After a Haynes layup pulled Arlington to within 100-99, Shannon Shorter hit a free throw with 12 seconds remaining for the final point. A jumper by Long rattled out in the closing seconds.
Sixty-three fouls were called and the teams attempted 87 free throws combined. North Texas was 44 of 57 and Arlington was 22 of 30.
