Hardin Simmons at Baylor

Baylor 106, Hardin-Simmons 45
  •

WACO, Texas (AP) -Baylor sharpshooter LaceDarius Dunn had a game-high 27 points despite sitting out most of the second half as the Bears dominated Hardin-Simmons on Sunday, 106-45.

Ekpe Udoh and Quincy Acy added 13 points each and combined for 18 rebounds before the Bears (4-0) cleared their bench with 12 minutes to play. Zach Rule hit six 3-pointers to lead the Division III Cowboys (0-1) with 18 points.

The 61-point margin was the second largest in Baylor history, five points fewer than in a 121-55 victory over Austin College on Nov. 24, 1978. It also marked the first time since 1952 that the Bears had held back-to-back opponents under 50 points. They beat Southern University 61-45 last Sunday in Waco.

"We really did a good job defensively, setting a tone," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "We were real unselfish and did a good job sharing the ball."

The Bears outrebounded the smaller Cowboys 55-27 and outscored them in the paint 58-4. Hardin-Simmons, which lost three players to season-ending injuries before playing a game and had a fourth suspended, fielded a lineup that averaged only 6-feet-3, smaller than every Baylor player except point guard A.J. Walton.

Dunn, who sat out the last 14:34, made four straight shots, including three 3-pointers to cap a 24-2 run that gave Baylor a 39-12 lead with 5:26 left in the first half. Udoh and Acy took over from there, combining for 11 points in the closing minutes as the Bears took a 56-19 lead at the half.

Hardin-Simmons, which returned only five players with a total of 21 starts for last season's 9-16 squad, dropped to 0-23 against NCAA Division I competition since dropping from that level in 1990.
