TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Augustus Gilchrist had 19 points and seven rebounds, leading South Florida to an easy 76-54 victory over Kent State on Wednesday night.
Jarrid Famous had 16 points and eight rebounds and Dominique Jones scored 10 for Bulls. South Florida coach Stan Heath used his bench extensively in the second half against Kent State, a school that gave him his first job as a head coach eight years ago.
South Florida (5-1) scored 19 unanswered points en route to a 24-4 advantage midway through the first half. A reverse dunk by Mike Mercer off a steal and feed by Justin Leemow gave the Bulls a 41-20 halftime lead.
Justin Greene had 13 points and Rodriguez Sherman finished with 11 for Kent State (4-2).
South Florida shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) from the floor in the first half, including 5 of 12 (41.7 percent) from behind the arc.
