NEW YORK (AP) -D.J. Kennedy scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half and St. John's cruised to a 63-55 win over Stony Brook on Wednesday night for the Red Storm's best start in 15 years.
The last time St. John's (6-0) opened a season with six straight wins was 1994-95, when the Red Storm started 7-0.
St. John's never trailed, opening the game on Malik Boothe's 3-pointer. The Red Storm led 12-1 and by as many as 14 points in the first half before taking a 30-20 margin into the break.
The Seawolves (5-2) twice pulled within nine points early in the second half, but could get no closer until Muhammad El-Amin hit a 3-pointer for the final score.
Sean Evans added 12 points for the Red Storm, nine in the first half.
Bryan Dougher scored 13 to lead Stony Brook, with Dallis Joyner and El-Amin chipping in 11 each.
St. John's is 8-0 all-time against the Seawolves.
