DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -Mark Yelovich had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Southern Illinois-Edwardsville past Drake 60-58 in the opening round of the Drake Hy-Vee Classic Friday night.
Yelovich also had two blocks, a steal and two 3-pointers. Aamir McCleary added 14 points, six assists and seven rebounds for the Cougars (1-6).
Seth VanDeest had 15 points and two blocks to lead Drake (2-5). Ryan Wedel added 10 points and two steals for the Bulldogs, and Adam Templeton had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Templeton also had two 3-pointers.
SIU-Edwardsville outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-25 and shot 50 percent (24 of 48) while holding Drake to 39-percent shooting (24 of 61).
The Cougars will play Texas-Arlington Saturday night for the championship of the second-annual tournament.
