DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -Mark Yelovich scored 18 points and LeShaun Murphy added 16 as SIU-Edwardsville edged Texas-Arlington 71-67 to win the Drake Hy-Vee Classic on Saturday.
The Cougars (2-6), who came into the Classic winless, trailed for much of the game but used an 11-0 run late to take the lead for good.
Marquez Haynes scored 30 points and Brandon Long had 12 for the Mavericks (4-3).
Trailing 56-49 with 7:39 remaining, Edwardsville scored 11 straight points to take its first lead since 21-19 with 6:25 left in the first half.
Arlington pulled to within 62-61 with 2:10 to go but couldn't overtake the Cougars.
Edwardsville shot 53.2 percent while Arlington struggled, hitting just 37.1 percent of its shots.
