Jacksonville State at Mississippi

No. 16 Mississippi 90, Jacksonville State 75
  •

OXFORD, Miss. -- Terrico White and Mississippi didn't miss much from the outside.

White scored 29 points and No. 16 Mississippi connected for a school-record 14 3-pointers in a 90-75 victory over Jacksonville State on Tuesday night.

Zach Graham had 14 points and Chris Warren added 11 for the Rebels (11-2), who shot 14 of 31 from 3-point range, including a 7-of-10 performance by White. The Rebels finished 32 of 69 from the field (46 percent).

"We're dangerous when we shot well and we did that today. They zoned us and we got some good looks, but we got settled when we got the lead and we've got to fix that," White said. "We're 11-2 and we're in the Top 25, so right now, we're feeling pretty good."

Mississippi raced to a 17-2 lead and did not give up a field goal until Jeremy Bynum connected on a jumper with 12:51 left.

"We've been talking about coming out strong, because it seems to affect us the whole game when we do," White said. "When we've come out lazy, that affects us for the whole game, too. We got a good start today."

The Rebels led 42-36 at halftime and opened the second half with an 11-2 run and Jacksonville State never pulled closer than 12 points again.

"There were stretches where we played very well," Kennedy said. "There were also some stretches where I thought we were playing the scoreboard instead of playing Jacksonville State."

Trenton Marshall led Jacksonville State (5-6) with 20 points and Bynum added 16. The Gamecocks shot 38 percent from the field (25 of 66), but stayed within striking distance by going 19 of 21 from the free-throw line.

"Ole Miss was locked in after losing at West Virginia and they showed it," Jacksonville State coach James Green said. "They make you have bad starts, but we never stopped battling and our free throws and making only four turnovers kept us in range.

"I told our guys that if we make free throws and keep it at four turnovers, we're going to be all right in [Ohio Valley] conference play. There aren't going to be many teams anywhere that can shoot like the one we saw tonight."

The Rebels led by as many as 19 points in the first half and by 25 points midway through the second half.

The Rebels, who held Jacksonville State without a field goal for another seven-minute stretch in the second half, improved to 33-1 at home against non-conference teams over the past four seasons under coach Andy Kennedy.
