ST. LOUIS (AP) - Cody Ellis scored 13 points and Saint Louis opened with a 14-1 run Friday night en route to a 71-37 season-opening victory over Tennessee State.
The Billikens held Tennessee State to 19 percent shooting in the first half and did not allow a field goal until Patrick Miller's 3-pointer at the 12:41 mark in the first half. Saint Louis stretched its lead to 17-4, forcing nine turnovers in the first 10 minutes.
Brian Conklin added 11 points, while Kwamain Mitchell had nine points and eight assists for the Billikens.
Robert Covington led Tennessee State with nine points. The Tigers shot 29.8 percent from the field for the game - their worst shooting performance since hitting 27.6 percent at Colorado on Dec. 19, 2003 - and committed 22 turnovers. The 37 points were the lowest total for a Tennessee State team since 1970.
