LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) - Jake Odum had 13 points, R.J. Mahurin added 10 and Indiana State beat Texas Tech 60-49 in the opening round of the Old Spice Classic on Thursday.
Myles Walker and Dwayne Lathan each had nine points for Indiana State (5-0), which has opened a season with five wins in a row for the first time since an 8-0 start in 2005-06.
Jordan Tolbert had 20 points for Texas Tech (3-1).
Mahurin hit a long range jumper 5 1/2 minutes into the second half as Indiana State went ahead 42-31. Mahurin added a 3-point play to make it 53-41 with just over five minutes remaining.
Tolbert's rebound basket cut the deficit to 44-39 midway through the second half. The freshman was taken out for about two minutes when he picked up his fourth foul with 8:19 to play.
Lathan hit a 3 and Richard made two free throws to put the Sycamores up 17-7 nine minutes into the game.
Terran Petteway completed a 12-2 run that got Texas Tech even at 22 on a 3-pointer with 6:42 left in the first half. Indiana State's Justin Gant stopped the Red Raiders' surge with 3-point play that included a rebound slam dunk.
Carl Richard had a reverse layup during the final minute that helped Indiana State take a 32-26 halftime lead.
Texas Tech's Ty Nurse, who entered averaging 19.3 points this season, has held to one point.
